I've listed a few tools that will help you set up a site and even make a bit of money from it. Forget the silly claims that are made on thousands of web pages. for every one person making a fortune on the web, there are several million people who are not.
Set up a website, join some decent affiliate programs (free), and concentrate on driving traffic to your site.
What are Affiliate Programs?
Affiliate programs
allow independent and corporate websites the opportunity to match their existing
content with links to other websites, and get paid for it.
Basically, you sign up for an affiliate program, browse through the available
Merchant programs, and select the ones that are best for you.
Whenever someone goes to your site, clicks through a banner that you selected
from the affiliate program, you earn money. A portion of that sale, or a fixed
amount for a lead or hit.
It's free to join and can earn you some cash, but don't expect the money to come
rolling in straight away - you have to work at it.

Click Exchanges
Click exchanges are a quick and easy way to get some traffic to your site. For every site that you visit, you will get a visit in return. If you refer others to them, you will receive extra bonus visits as a result.

Search Engine Submission
You need to submit your site to the search engines to receive more traffic. There are sites who will do this in a limited way for free. To really get the hit counter spinning you need to have your site optimised and submitted professionally.

Link Exchanges
The best way to gain traffic is to exchange links with as many sites as possible. This benefits you in two ways. Obviously the more links that you have on other sites, the greater the chance of someone clicking on one and visiting your site. The second benefit is that search engines look at the number of sites that link to your site when determining rankings. In other words, the more links you have, the greater the chance of getting a good search engine ranking. There are lots of link exchanges out there, you can visit some of the better free ones here
